CLIMATE CHANGE EFFECTS ON BIODIVERSITY

Our climate is changing and not for the good. It is believed that greenhouse gas and carbon emissions need to be severely reduced soon or else climate could cause up to a quarter of our animals, bird life and plant life to become extinct.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND ANIMALS
Climate change is effecting animals in a number of different way that are not good, positive or natural for tour fauna.
  • Birds are starting to lay their eggs earlier in the year
  • Birds are migrating and arriving at their nesting grounds earlier
  • Mammals are coming our of hibernation earlier

Distribution of animals is being largely affected as many species are moving closer to the poles as a response to the climate warming.

If sea levels rise only another 50m this may cause sea turtles to lose their nesting batches.

Mediterranean Monk Seals need because upon arrival to raise their pups and a rise in sea levels may damage shallow coastal areas used also by whales and dolphins which need the shallow, gental waters.

Animals genetic commotions may change in response to the different selection pressures of climate change.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND PLANTS
Climate change is effecting plants in a number of different ways that are not positive for our flora.
  • Plants are starting to bloom earlier than normal

Plants genetic composition may change in response to the different selection pressures of climate change
